The Skyros Centre, Greece
The Skyros Centre - one of two Skyros holidays centres - is a creative retreat right in the heart of Greek island village life and close to long, sandy beaches.
Each holiday at the Skyros Centre focuses on either writing or wellbeing. Choose your dates and focus, and return home with all the skills and encouragement necessary to pursue your creative vision. This is a lovely opportunity to benefit from the support and advice of exceptional, warm-hearted facilitators and likeminded new friends.
The holiday price includes twin shared, authentic Greek village accommodation, breakfast and lunch (or dinner instead), your masterclass, morning yoga and other adhoc events and activities. Single upgrades are available.
Skyros island, a hidden gem in the Sporades archipelago in the Aegean Sea, is known for its unspoiled nature, secluded beaches, sea caves and charming villages. On a hill above the main village there is a Byzantine castle and the monastery of Saint George.
The Skyros Centre - where you focus on your writing or wellbeing course - is high up in the village and accessed via cobbled stones and narrow streets. It is possible to take a taxi up to the centre so that you can walk down through the village and enjoy the coffee shops, and local craft shops on your way to the main square.
Atsitsa Bay - where you have the choice of a wide range of courses and activities - is right by the sea and in the arms of pine forest.
There are steep steps up to some of the outdoor course activity areas.
Skyros provides holistic holidays which emphasise being rather than having, doing rather than consuming and cooperating rather than competing. Skyros is committed to an eco-friendly future and support solar heating and recycling, including shower water. Guests are encouraged to bring their own water bottle and use refill stations throughout the site.
Skyros encourages responsible integration with local communities including the teaching of local history, culture and language and sponsorship of local events and organisations. Skyros uses locally owned and maintained facilities with policies in place that favour local produce and services and locals are employed wherever possible.
The Skyros head office is open year-round on weekdays from 9am to 5.30pm.
Holidays in Greece run from May to September and prices start from £975 for a week including twin shared accommodation, meals and courses/activities.
Fly to Athens then take the Aegean Air domestic flight to Skyros island (SKU) on the first day of the holiday, ie Sunday. If the domestic flight is sold out overland transfers by coach and will be offered. Fly home on the last day of the holiday. If domestic flights are full, then take the overland transfer back to Athens airport with other holiday participants.
Transfer options are offered if you would like a night in Athens on the night before the holiday.
