The Knoydart Retreat: Painting In The Wilderness Of Scotland With Ellis O'Connor

Our inspirational Painting Retreats are located on the remote peninsula of Knoydart. This unique location allows your creative juices to flow. No experience necs.

Description

Join us in the wilderness of Knoydart, on the west coast of Scotland, where this magical and remote landscape will be your inspiration.
You will enjoy a wonderful week of painting with like-minded people and stay in an exclusive house, right next to Long Beach on the shores of Loch Nevis (meaning Heaven).
Ellis O'Connor is your painting mentor, and her style is very much expressive, abstract, and liberating. Through her art, she explores her inner expression and that’s what she'll be teaching you to find within yourself. We all interpret what we see around us differently and everyone’s style is unique and that is the beauty of art. Ellis will show you ways of capturing what we see around you with confidence and through demonstrations of many techniques.
We supply most art materials.

Eco Practices

The Knoydart peninsula is a wonderful example of community spirit at its best.
Knoydart was bought by the community in 1999 and is an inspiring example of community working in harmony, successful eco practices in place, honest work ethic, and amazing friendship.
Our electricity is generated from hydro-electric power, the water is sourced from the mountains and filtered into all the houses and buildings, the pub (The Old Forge) is community owned and the hub of the village, the wild venison is culled with care from the hills and locally butchered, many residents have built eco housing, nature is preserved and wildlife thrives.

Directions and Travel

Knoydart is a remote peninsula on the west coast of Scotland, level with the southern tip of Skye. With no roads in and no roads out, it is only accessible by a 30-min passenger boat from Mallaig. We meet all attendees in Mallaig and accompany them on the boat. 4x4 vehicles then pick you all up from the pier and take you to the house you stay in near Long Beach. PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES Inverness airport where you then catch a couple of buses to Mallaig. Glasgow airport where you catch the train to Mallaig. This train journey is listed in the top 10 of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. Edinburgh airport where you catch a train to Glasgow then a train to Mallaig. As Knoydart is a remote peninsula, you should allow an extra day to travel to and from Knoydart.
